We will highlight the importance of some smaller issues within an urban environment. The Urban Beauty project will create new forms for the seasonal plant areas and highlight the traditional planting areas within architecture and park culture.
Seasonal plants are part of everyday design, small-scale decorations within a city environment. They attract various insects and birds and thereby maintain this diversity of urban nature. Without the seasonal plants, the urban environment would miss out on this bold and impressive colour spectrum.
According to resident feedback received by the City of Helsinki Public Works Department, seasonal plants are seen as important splashes of colour in people’s daily lives and even part of the identity of the area.
The 2012 seasonal plant locations are scattered around Helsinki at 30 different locations, ten of which are located within the city centre. A map will be created of the various WDC Helsinki 2012 planting locations with lists of the plants and their descriptions. This information will be available on media, such as the Internet, and a guided plant tour in the central locations will be arranged by the Public Works Department.
The project will be organised by the City of Helsinki Public Works Department.
