We shall demonstrate the possibilities of diversified and ecological building, illustrate the effects of construction and collect opinions. The Cloud City project ponders how we can build more on existing areas: would it be possible to construct an additional building on the roof of an existing city block, and if so, what would it look like and how would it affect its immediate surroundings?
Merikortteli in Helsinki, which was built in the 1930s as a Nokia cable factory, is now a factory building utilised by several creative industries. Construction of an additional building in Merikortteli, to be erected above the roof line, has been proposed.
The Cloud City illustrates this additional building in many different ways, for example by using airborne balloons the size of the planned homes. The balloons are the size of the rooms in the planned homes, and they will be located in such a way that onlookers will have the best possible idea of the location of the homes and the actual size and height of the project.
The project is organised by Merikortteli Oy.
