Svenska kulturfonden makes a major contribution to World Design Capital Helsinki 2012

Svenska kulturfonden (Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland) has joined the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 project as one of its financiers and partners. The significant and extensive cooperation now announced aims at production of joint contents. At the same time, the cooperation will facilitate joint projects with other Nordic partners.

Svenska kulturfonden will launch its own World Design Capital programme search in January 2011. Altogether the programme items will be one million euros. Proposals can be submitted through the end of March. World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and Svenska kulturfonden will jointly select the proposals for implementation.

“World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 not only offers us an exciting challenge, but it also gives us an unprecedented opportunity to influence the development of society as a whole through new type of design thinking. Svenska kulturfonden wants to support this project with a major input,” says Berndt Arell, Director of Svenska kulturfonden.

“Svenska kulturfonden’s major input will also communicate internationally that we understand the wider meaning of design in Finland and realize the cultural, economic and social power of design,” says Pekka Timonen, Director of International Design Foundation, which manages the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 project.
