The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has launched a design competition, EESC Design Eleven – 2011 European Design Award For A Sustainable Present, for European designers and design students.
Accepting proposals through May 2011, the competition looks for innovative, sustainable and creative design products under the theme of aging population. The winning proposal will go into limited production, to be used by EESC members as business gifts in 2012-2013.
Aging population is one of Europe’s great challenges, and 2012 will be a theme year of active aging in Europe. To comply with the theme in the current competition, either end users should be included in the design process (participative design), or young designers should team up with senior designers (co-design). The proposals should include the packaging, and the products should bear the EESC logo.
The competition closes on May 30, 2011. After jury evaluation, the winner will be announced in July 2011.
