Work space and networking for young designers

Finnish design is a world-renowned concept, which is above all based on the products and objets d'art of past Finnish designers. But what happens when a designer has nowhere to work or show off their skills? How would increasing exposure, let alone international fame, be possible?

A solution to this problem has been found by Finland's first design gallery, Köln im Studio, which has taken the idea of a rental workspace much further than merely a shared studio.

The goal of the concept, which is already familiar in other parts of the world, is to promote the success of Finnish design by offering talented designers not only a drawing board, but also an exceptional working environment and pleasant co-workers.   In addition to their own projects, designers renting work space can also participate in larger Studio design projects.

In addition to this, the Studio's own design gallery is also part of the World Design Capital programme of events and will host design seminars as well as events that allow designers to network with industry players and potential new clients.

Located in the Punavuori district, the design gallery and its work spaces will host an open house on Wednesday, 9 November 2011 at 5-7pm. Please sign up in advance at studio@diagonal.fi and include a description of your own field of endeavour, which may be, for example, service design, interior architecture, graphic design, photography, concept design or anything between these. Studio gives preference to freelancers and small enterprises when renting work spaces.
