Design Capital's market blocks fill with music on Saturday

Music will be taking over the blocks near Senate Square on Saturday 24 September at the Soiva Kortteli (Musical Block) event jointly arranged by We Love Helsinki and Radio Helsinki.

Established in 2000, Radio Helsinki is a local radio station in the capital region that operates online throughout Finland. Radio Helsinki’s partner in implementing the event is We Love Helsinki, an association that organises dances, urban festivals and other events in Helsinki.

The Soiva Kortteli exhibition allows everyone to live out their musical dreams. Music and songs will be ringing out in the courtyards, corners and rooms of the market blocks, where the audience can use the exhibition map to find their way around.

The market blocks located between the Senate and Market Squares stretch from Unioninkatu Street to Helenankatu Street and are home to many design and handicraft companies, restaurants and cafés. In addition to commercial services, the blocks are the site of Helsinki City Museum and Tourist Information, while Virka Info and Virka Gallery (the City of Helsinki’s public information service and exhibition space) are located at City Hall.

WDC Helsinki 2012 Studio is also part of the event

On Saturday, Anna Inginmaa will be performing at Design Capital Studio at approximately 2-3 pm and Aino Venna at 3-4 pm. Aino Venna specialises in a unique style of folk music, taking her inspiration from books and films and the past and future world. Smooth sounding singer/songwriter Anna Inginmaa paints pictures of Helsinki accompanied by guitar and possibly the accordion. Soap bubbles are also part of the programme.

WDC Helsinki 2012 Studio, located at Aleksanterinkatu 16, is an exhibition space for everyone that is open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. The Metamorphosis and Inspiring Encounters exhibition is running until 6 October 2011.
