Redesign 9 to 5 is an embedded design project that aims to redesign the normal working practices of work communities where employees perform a large amount of office work.
The project examines the daily life of an information employee at the grassroots level and looks for better ways of doing and organising work. The year-long Redesigning 925 project has begun with data collection and will continue with observations of current operating methods.
The planned new practices will be selected on the basis of a study conducted in 2011 and tried out in test groups. For example, the new operating methods could be different types of meeting, e-mail and calendar procedures and improving communication about the company strategy from the perspective of the personnel.
The goal is to redesign the working week and to increase the efficiency, enjoyment and creativity of work. The project will be carried out in co-operation with 5-7 Finnish bodies, including both companies and organizations. The project will be based on an extensive literature study and will culminate in a book and seminar.
