Future City

The Future City depicts our living environment as it could possibly be in the future. Stamps made from the winners of the Future City stamp design competition are also the official World Design Capital Helsinki stamps.

A total of eight contributions were picked from the total of 1,422 entries sent during the competition period, 3 February – 4 April 2011, to be released as a stamp booklet in January 2012. All contributions were posted on the Internet for public voting, and altogether 15,038 votes were cast.

The eight winners were chosen on the basis of the public voting and a jury assessment. The winning designs are: Future City by graphic designer Chloe Chapeaublanc from Helsinki; Onnela (“happy place”) by Sini Henttonen, a graduate student in textile design from Helsinki; Citykani (“city bunny”) by textile designer Katja Hynninen from Tampere; Kaupungin liike (“city movement”) by schoolboy Daniel Kallström from Helsinki; Asenne (“attitude”) by graphic designer Ville Korhonen from Lahti; Tulevaisuus rohkeana (“facing future boldly”) by five-year-old Elias Ollila from Espoo; and two works, Color Power and Mix, by freelance graphic artist Varpu Kangas from Helsinki.

The competition was arranged by Itella Posti Oy.
