MEE – Ministry of Employment and the Economy

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy (MEE) is responsible for the operating environment underpinning entrepreneurship and innovation activities, securing the functioning of the labour market and workers’ employability, as well as for regional development within the global economy. Energy policy also falls within the scope of MEE activities.

Design is a part of innovation policy, and the design capital year promotes the targets of this policy.

The aim of MEE during the design capital year is to use design methods to reinforce Finnish competitiveness and export. This will be achieved by increasing the use of design in daily life, improving networking among design companies and promoting general development of the design sector.

Innovation is a competitive edge resulting from expertise, and it benefits business, society and wellbeing. Design can help to provide a deeper understanding of the viewpoint and needs of the user.

The use of design can create an innovation that may be a new product, a renewed public or private service, a more successful business model or a new type of value chain or network.

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy will be implementing design year projects.
