Lapin Kulta

Many Finnish design success stories were first inspired by nature and authenticity. These are also the drivers behind Lapin Kulta, a tour de force of everyday design.

Lapin Kulta hopes that the World Design Capital 2012 year will inspire as many people as possible to stop for a moment and enjoy the design that surrounds them all the time. For example a bottle that suits its purpose and fits in the hand perfectly; a restaurant’s well-designed service experience and superbly served pint of beer; high-quality drinks and food hand-made from pure ingredients; and their overall daily environment and surrounding people.

A foretaste of the events of next year is offered by the Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen, a solar-powered high-end restaurant opened during the Milan Design Week. It is a concept created jointly by culinary pioneer Antto Melasniemi, the world-renowned Catalan designer Martí Guixén and Lapin Kulta, challenging traditional notions regarding restaurants, cooking, food, drink and their relationships with nature. Dedicated to sun, gourmet cuisine, beer, art and life, the restaurant will entice lovers of design and good food during summer 2011 in many Finnish cities, from north to south. The Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen offers a unique opportunity for stopping to enjoy life.
