Blue 1

Innovations and high-quality design are the foundations of Blue1’s future service product for its customers.

Service design is also a way of standing out from the competition. A good example is Blue1 Premium, which offers novel travel solutions for modern Finnish business travellers. Blue1 places a great emphasis on next-generation business travellers, without forgetting leisure customers. The company’s aim is to help all people live spontaneous, productive and inspiring lives and to encourage them to do, see, experience and relax more. Up-to-date service solutions play an important role in achieving this.

In the World Design Capital project, Blue1 is participating in furthering and promoting Finnish design around the world. In terms of industrial and service design, one of the best examples is the new visual identity of Blue1’s Boeing 717 passenger planes, entitled ‘Flowing’, which was created in a groundbreaking partnership with graphic design students from Aalto University School of Art and Design.

The design, made separately for each aircraft taking visual cues from Finland’s lakes, seas and waterways, reflects the Blue1 brand as a modern Finnish airline. The Flowing design’s joyful raindrops and various aqueous elements arc gracefully over the planes’ flanks. The watery theme is also repeated in the names of the aircraft, including Source of Summer, Spring Rain, Rain Pearl, Blue Stream and Celestial Brook. Each plane is an artwork in itself!

The new look created in partnership with Aalto University is an excellent example of Blue1’s novel approach towards and interest in service development. The partnership with the WDC project is a natural continuation of this foray into the design world.
