Well-managed parks make Helsinki more fun

The Art goes Kapakka annual urban festival recognizes Helsinki personalities and institutions with awards for making Helsinki a more fun city.

One of the five award winners this year is the Street and Park Division of the City of Helsinki Public Works department.

The jury says, “It is essential and fun that the challenges posed by public sites are tackled and that the staff of the Street and Park Division continues to do their good job.”

The jury especially recognizes the maintenance staff for their efforts in connection with special events: “After the party’s over and the citizens have moved on to other venues or retired to their homes… the Street and Park Division takes over. Their relentless efforts make the city pleasant again.”

In the Art goes Kapakka festival, diverse performers take to stage in Helsinki pubs, bars and restaurants. The patrons are offered music, visual arts, theatre, dance, presentations and poetry, some spiced up with culinary pleasures. The ongoing Art goes Kapakka is the 15th annual event in the festival’s history.

The other four winners of awards for making Helsinki more fun are restaurant manager Katri Hepolampi of Restaurant Kosmos, Flow Festival, the urban environmental organization Dodo, and Fullsteam Records and Agency.
