WDC Helsinki 2012 takes Silver Award in Grafia’s Best of the Year competition

World Design Capital (WDC) Helsinki 2012 has earned a Silver Award for its brand identity in The Best of the Year competition, where Grafia, Association of Professional Graphic Designers in Finland, annually awards the best in Finnish advertising and design. Organized by Grafia for more than 30 years, The Best of the Year (Vuodet Huiput) is Finland’s foremost competition in its field.

The Best of the Year jury commented as follows on the brand identity of WDC Helsinki 2012, created by design consultancy Kokoro & Moi: “The diverse graphic designs produced by the creative idea reflect in an ingenious way the nature of the project and the goals set for it. The holistic approach to the designs breaks conventions and so creates an unusual, relaxed and identifiable visual identity for the whole.”

It is particularly remarkable for WDC Helsinki 2012 to receive this award because “our brand identity relies on an open and interactive creative process which is new to the field of graphic design,” says Sanna-Mari Jäntti, Development Director at WDC Helsinki 2012. “We are privileged and pleased to work in close cooperation with true pioneers.”

The Best of the Year competition seeks to raise the standards of Finnish design, to empower creativity and originality, and to improve designers’ professional skills. Competition entries are compiled in an exhibition and in a yearbook, which present works and designers chosen by the jury.

WDC Helsinki 2012 has also been awarded as the Communications Achievement of the Year. The Achievement Award conferred to the project in 2010 recognized the application that won the World Design Capital mantle to Helsinki and its partner cities. The Communications Achievement Award is presented by ProCom – Finnish Association of Communications Professionals.
