OpenHouseHelsinki is an event that opens doors which are normally shut for
Helsinki residents and visitors.
Helsinki is known for a unique urban milieu and rich architecture from
Neoclassical to contemporary. However, many significant buildings and
interiors remain beyond access to the general public.
OpenHouseHelsinki comprises guided tours to some of the most remarkable sites
in Helsinki. During the 2009 event, these sites include the Alvar Aalto home,
Iraqi Embassy, Hakaniemi administrative building and Hanasaari power plant.
The tours are free of charge, and the guides are architects and other
experts.
OpenHouseHelsinki is organized annually. The public is invited to make their
suggestions for sites on the event’s web page.
