New Finnish design showcased in New York

Starting on Thursday, May 12, new designs by a select group of young Finnish designers will be on display in New York’s trendy Meatpacking District in the event titled New Finnish Design SCENARIOS – A Story About What Happened in the Future.

The event is a prime example of the official satellite events and the international dimension of World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. We are very proud to be involved.

The six-day event, held in connection of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York, is the latest segment of the successful New Finnish Design project launched in 2007 to promote Finnish design in North America.

The event is organized by the Consulate General of Finland in New York and the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York with support from Design Forum Finland. It is curated by the internationally recognized interior architect Sari Anttonen. Designers showcased include Mari Isopahkala, Harri Koskinen, Samuli Naamanka and Ilkka Suppanen.

The interactive core of the programme is a workshop organized in collaboration with Aalto University, which offers students from New York and Finland an opportunity to work hand in hand with Finnish designers and design companies. The workshop is open to the public and so offers a unique opportunity for everybody to participate in a creative process.
