Finnish design presented extensively at DMY festival in Berlin June 1-5, 2011

Finland is the theme country of the largest design event in Germany, DMY International Design Festival, held in Berlin in June 2011.

This internationally and nationally prominent festival gathers together young designers, design enterprises and students from more than 30 countries. DMY International Design Festival Berlin is a curated event, which serves as a communication and testing platform for new products and concepts. Crucial criteria for the products and concepts presented are experimentation and innovativeness.

The theme of this year’s DMY festival is “copying vs. inspiration”. Organizers expect roughly 30,000 visitors.

Finland’s special position as the theme country of DMY 2011 will be seen at all levels of the festival programme. New Finnish design and innovative Finnish design thinking will form key topics in the main exhibition. In addition to this exhibition, the Finland country focus will involve seminars, a symposium featuring international celebrities, and satellite events at various venues in Berlin. As the theme country, Finland will host the festival’s grand designer dinner. Berlin clubs will feature Finnish artists, and the DMY Klublabor happening will have a Finnish DJ.

Proposals on exhibitors and projects for DMY can be made until Monday, February 14, 2011. The selection will be made by a festival jury, and the selected designers will be notified by the end of March.

The Finland country focus is produced in close cooperation by DMY International Design Festival Berlin, World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, Finnish Institute in Berlin, Finnish Embassy in Berlin, City of Helsinki, Goethe-Institut Finnland, Aalto University and University of Helsinki. Designer Ilkka Suppanen is the artistic advisor and a jury member.
