The Viikki Environment exhibition showcases the impact of housing on climate change

The Viikki Environment exhibition presents the various aspects of nature within the area as well as Viikki area planning and solutions to be used for climate change mitigation in construction and housing.

Information on the environmental impacts of construction for beginners and experts alike

The exhibition which opened at Viikki Environment House as part of the WDC Helsinki 2012 programme portrays extensively the environmental impacts of construction and presents various ways to decrease the load caused by housing.

The exhibition will offer something for beginners and experts alike. For experts, the exhibition offers in-depth information on ecological construction and related skills as well as new solutions for decreasing the environmental load in future construction projects.

The exhibition will be organised in the foyer of Finland's most eco-efficient office building, Viikki Environment House. Environment House is a true example of bioclimatic architecture, i.e. architecture produced according to environmental requirements, where special attention has been paid to energy saving solutions, solar energy technology and construction and furnishing materials.

Also displayed will be eco-efficient options yet to be built in the area, such as the planned office building for the Finnish Environment Institute and the new Metsä Wood timber-built apartment blocks.

The ecological and responsible Viikki

The Viikki area is known for its ecological and responsible construction. In planning the area, special attention has been paid to the preservation of natural and cultural values. In residential buildings, several interesting construction engineering solutions enable and facilitate a lifestyle which follows the principles of sustainable development.

The diverse nature, numerous opportunities for recreational activities as well as environment-savvy construction have made Viikki a unique, pleasant, attractive and popular neighbourhood.

The exhibition will be open from Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 16:00 until the end of WDC Helsinki 2012. Free admission.
