Are you the project manager for us?

We are looking for a project manager for a development programme utilising design, with the aim of encouraging public and third sector organisations, such as associations, to apply design and use it in new contexts and socially significant development challenges.

The World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 theme, Open Helsinki – Embedding Design in Life, reflects the new role of design: taking the users’ needs into consideration, and the possibilities of design also in developing services and systems. The development programme lacking a project manager consists of five design projects aiming to create nationally important, duplicable examples of using creative know-how and particularly design.

The project manager’s task is to prepare the design projects and select experts for them through competitive tendering. Those selected should be capable of producing new solution models for specific challenges using methods of design. In addition, the project manager ensures that the experiences gained from the projects are widely disseminated. A further goal is to activate public debate on new methods and uses of design.

The person selected for the post should have design sector qualifications and solid practical experience of design methods. Experience of working with the public and/or third sector is an added advantage. The application should include a description of the types of design projects the person has been involved in. We also consider good communication skills to be important.

We offer an independent and challenging position and an opportunity of implementing WDC Helsinki 2012 with us. The position is based in central Helsinki. The contract is for a fixed term. The starting date is March 2012 and the contract runs to the end of February 2013.
