Here are some of our events taking place this week.
Helsinki’s Cable Factory will open the exhibition French Design in Finland – Saint-Étienne, a Creative City with the central role played by Saint-Étienne. It is a former industrial city which has discovered new direction through culture and design.

Tuesday is a good day to visit the DesignWorld exhibition recently opened at the Helsinki Design Museum, displaying contemporary design from virtually every continent of the world.

The exhibition A Functional Home – Innovative and Safe Lifestyle Solutions will open on Wednesday in Helsinki.

The exhibition series Designed Technology – Forays into Technology and Design at the Museum of Technology (Helsinki) will highlight the way that design has always been evident in the history of industry and technology.

On Wednesday, the exhibition TRACK to Industrial Design will also open at the Lahti Muotohuoltamo Centre, showcasing local design skills from Lahti.

Our top international event, the World Design Capital Gala to be held at Sibelius Hall in Lahti will bring together both the Finnish and international design communities. Three prestigious design and architectural awards will be presented at the gala: the World Design Impact Prize, Alvar Aalto medal and the Estlander award. The Gala is an invitation-only event.
The Ekolandia exhibition to be opened at the Lahti Art Museum will showcase Finnish design and visual arts through spatial designs.

On Friday, the long-awaited WDC Helsinki 2012 Open Doors Weekend will also begin. This open doors design carnival, consisting of over 180 different events, will be celebrated in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti between 3 and 5 February.

Among the programme offerings will be the Frozen Lights ice lantern event on Senate Square in Helsinki. The Invisible City – Open Data Day event to be held at the Korjaamo Culture Factory in Helsinki will also feature.
