On Friday, anyone interested should jump on the bus in front of Kiasma and head to the free science event now organised in Otaniemi for the third time.
One topic to be discussed during the Technology Days will be that travelling by bus will soon no longer be the only public transport option to Espoo. Länsimetro (‘west metro’), the largest rock construction project in Finland, will see a tunnel drilled through the bedrock for a distance of 14 kilometres - which means that in future, passengers will also have the choice of taking an underground route to the science event.
Science and technology will attract people to Otaniemi on 13 & 14 January 2012, since the Technology Days event will once again aim to provide an answer to some of the world’s most significant questions. This year, the theme of the free science event will be the basic element Earth.
During the Technology Days, the surface of the earth will be approached from many different perspectives. Pekka Heikkinen, Head of the Institute of Seismology at the University of Helsinki, will remind his audience of ways to consider earthquakes during city planning. Several experts participating in the event will look at Earth through science, art, social structure and energy production.
This is the third year that Technology Days event has been organised, and once again thousands of visitors are expected to attend. The event is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme.
