Contemporary Finnish architecture far away from home – the exhibition begins!

The Museum of Finnish Architecture exhibition Seven Connections takes a look at Finnish architecture around the world beginning on 11 January. A video production which is central to the exhibition will showcase Finnish architecture on three giant television screens from locations of some distance to Helsinki.

Designer researcher Pekka Sipilä and interior design journalist Virpi Aaltonen have travelled around the world to film Finnish architecture in foreign locations. The results of their work can now be seen in a production where seven architects introduce the buildings that they have designed. Combining interviews, still images, videos and soundscapes, the production also aims to appeal to the visitor who has previously found architectural exhibitions anything but easy to approach.

The buildings selected for the exhibition have been successful in international competitions and are located in Asia, North America and Europe. Among other things, the Museum opens a door to a Chinese opera house, an Estonian art museum and an environmentally friendly neighbourhood in South Korea.

This exhibition which will run well into February will also invite those curious enough to participate in discussion events. The theme of the first discussion is aptly the export of architecture.

The Museum of Finnish Architecture 2012 exhibitions are part of the WDC Helsinki 2012 programme.

Seven Connections – A Window on Contemporary Finnish Architecture to be shown from 11 January to 26 February 2012 at the Museum of Finnish Architecture.
