The participation period for the Bullhorn Design Competition focusing on the improvement of comfort and convenience of everyday travel will end on 15 January 2012.
Architects and designers are invited to participate in an open international design competition focusing on the use of fibre cement in urban environments. The competition applies to various transit areas. The competition entries will be placed within the Malmi station area which is one of the busiest local stations in Helsinki. By developing this area we can improve the daily travelling conditions for thousands of urban residents.
The stations as well as the public transport transit hubs are significant both for functionality and area identity. Urban commuters spend much of their time in different types of conveyances and related areas. Many traffic junctions are often ‘non-areas’, and the planning and use of these areas do not receive enough attention.
Competition participants will be asked to consider arrival at Malmi from five different angles: by train, by bus, by car, by bicycle and on foot. An international judging panel will select three competition entries which will then be used to develop prototypes for the final assessment. The prototypes of the winning entry will be displayed in an exhibition in May 2012.
The competition is to be organised by Cembrit.
