Design from Lahti in Design Station

The Design Station in Lahti will start the WDC Helsinki 2012 in the City of Lahti with Tapio Anttila’s (Interior Architect, member of Finnish Association of Interior Architects SIO) exhibition ‘Design from Lahti by Tapio Anttila’. The exhibition will be open from 1 Jan until 27 Jan 2012.

The exhibition will include the laudable designer’s new work as well as products he has designed over the years. The furniture and lighting on display are all local because Tapio Anttila has designed the products for companies located in Lahti and the surrounding areas.

“The emphasis of the exhibition is in Lahti because there is a lot of furniture know-how here which has also gained international success," Anttila explains.
The exhibition will include products which have received international design awards as well as works which have received honorary mentions in Finland.  The lamps in the exhibition have toured abroad during the autumn; they have been exhibited in the London Design Festival and Budapest Design Week.

Design honouring traditions

Tapio Anttila is particularly interested in Finnish wood and how it can be worked in modern ways that honour traditions. In furniture design his focus is on functional furniture for homes and public spaces.

Tapio Anttila has received numerous well-known recognitions in the design sector. He has participated in several internationally significant exhibitions and export projects. Anttila's lamp "Tip" was recently awarded with an internationally renowned GOOD DESIGN recognition. The GOOD DESIGN prize, awarded by Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, was designated to Anttila for the third time already.

Design Station believes in local design

The focus of the exhibitions organised in the Design Station, a WDC Helsinki 2012 meeting place in Lahti, is local design.  Visitors can participate in the WDC Helsinki 2012 activities in many ways, for example in different workshops.

The Design Station is located at Vesijärvenkatu 7, Lahti. The exhibitions are free-of-charge.
