Design Capital gets its own product range

We have collected a range of successful classic and future products for the Design Capital. The designers of the products vary from promising talents to internationally renowned and recognised pioneers of Finnish design.

Our products are available at the Finnish Design Shop, in which a section dedicated to the design capital has today been opened. Founded in 2004 and operating in 29 countries in Europe, in addition to the USA, the Finnish Design Shop is the world's largest online shop selling Finnish design.

Our range includes, for example, Oiva Toikka's bag, Saara Renvall's flower reflector, colourful designer t-shirts, and an international CD assembled from the music of Helsinki based artists. In addition to our brand products, the online shop sells the products of our co-operation partner Iittala, which reflect the image of our design capital.

Oiva Toikka's bag

Oiva Toikka, a Helsinki based designer known for his glass birds, has designed the pattern for a bag which is part of our product range. The bag is made of hand-woven, environmentally friendly Indian cotton, and a message from the design capital can be read in its inner pocket.

Saara Renvall's flower reflector

The flower reflector design by Saara Renvall, a designer from Helsinki, is dressed in the fresh colours of the design capital, e.g. from yellow to purple and ice blue. In the flower reflector style and practicality unite; it is a stunning accessory, which reflects in the dark.

T-shirts from five Finnish designers

Five Finnish designers have immortalised their views in the design capital T-shirts: Jesse Auersalo, Tommi Musturi, Sami Kortemäki, Aino-Maija Mestola and Tuomas Toivonen.

The green T-shirt of Jesse Auersalo, Illustrator, expresses internationality. Auersalo's design has been seen before, e.g. in the products of Converse and Microsoft.

The graphic bluish-green T-shirt by Tommi Musturi, a Comic Strip artist, depicts playfulness, which according to Musturi is close to improvisation reaching freedom, which makes things happen.

Sami Kortemäki from the Underware team has designed a yellow T-shirt, which guarantees street credibility amongst the designers.

The red T-shirt is the handiwork of Aino-Maija Mestola. Mestola's prints have been seen, e.g. in Marimekko's products. She is known for patterns which resemble Finnish folk art.

A discfull of internationality

Our Streets Ahead CD contains 13 international pieces from great Helsinki artists. The pieces of the collection were carefully picked by a multitalent in Helsinki city culture, Antti Eerikäinen. Musicians represent the most intriguing art scene in Helsinki in the recent years.
