Top-class experts lecture about topical scientific subjects

During the autumn, the University of Helsinki has been holding a series of lectures that is open to all and free of charge. This series culminates in early November in lectures dealing with the circulation of matter and the materiality of reality.

In the Studia Generalia lectures organised by the Open University, top-class experts in their scientific fields lecture on topical themes and discuss them with the audience.

Lectures on the internet and on video

The lectures can be followed either on site at the central university campus at Porthania, live on the internet or recorded on video after the event. The lectures are also being shown at Lahti's new Fellmanní Congress Centre by direct internet video link.

On Thursday 3 November in the ‘Aine kiertoon’ (matter in circulation) lecture, the topic of Professor Martin Romantschuk of the Department of Environmental Ecology is ‘Are we drowning in waste?’. The Vice Rector of the University, Professor Jukka Kola, is lecturing on the subject ‘New power from bio-energy’. The event is chaired by Helsinki City Councillor, Professor Laura Kolbe.

On Thursday 10 November  in the ’Is reality matter?’ lecture, brain researcher Teija Kujala, philosopher Panu Raatikainen and theologist Jaana Hallamaa discuss the topic under the chairmanship of Professor Kari Enqvist.

The lectures are open to all and begin at 5.00 pm.

Info event about studying at the university

Before the lectures, the University of Helsinki is organising information events for those interested in studying there, and the programme includes guided tours of the central campus. University students will act as guides.

On Thursday 10 November in a public presentation at the University of Helsinki, students from the faculties of Political Science and Agriculture and Forestry will tell about their university studies and the own faculties.

These events are open to all and begin at 9.00 am at the Main University Building at Fabianinkatu 33.
