Local food festival in Fiskars Village at the weekend

Slow Food local food market will be arranged in Fiskars Village on Saturday and Sunday 1 -2 October 2011, between 10 am and 4 pm.

Slow Food is an international organisation that promotes local food, ecological production, local and regional food culture, and the development of bio-diverse cultivation practices. The festival is arranged for the second time by Slow Food Västnyland local unit, which was established in 2009. Last year’s event was a success, and the festival is expected to attract at least 10,000 people also this year.

The local food market will spread across the village, participants including local food producers, fishers, organic and sheep farmers, and local restaurants from the western Uusimaa region. The event for the whole family features this year’s Finnish Eurovision representative Paradise Oskar, Sotta and Pytty duo from children’s programme Pikku Kakkonen, Åland’s famous chef Michael Björklund, and the national chef teams of Finland and Switzerland.

Fiskars Village is an internationally renowned, vibrant hub of Finnish art and design. Fiskars Group, partner of World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, began its operations in the village already in 1649. Design that improves the quality of everyday life has been a key success factor for Fiskars. The concept is continued by designers, artisans and artists, who shape our environment today.
