The original HOK-Elanto Kaurakakku multigrain oat bread will be returning to shops in the Design Capital. It was a popular product manufactured from 1960 until 1984.
The bread is now reintroduced to celebrate World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. With a hole in the middle and a practical form, it indicates that design in everyday contexts is a vital part of the Finnish lifestyle. The bread has a handy size, is easy to transport and can be broken into portions.
Reaching 250,000 people everyday through its 300 outlets, HOK-Elanto is a key partner of Design Capital Helsinki. Bread is a staple product in Finland. The purpose is to remind design capital residents that tasty flavours are coupled with good form.
Elannon Näyttämö theatre is celebrating its 90th anniversary with the premiere of the Leipätehtaan naiset play (engl. Bread factory women), written by Pirjo Toikka and directed by Hanna Ryti.
It is a story about a young woman who begins work at a bread factory. The story was kindled by interviews of previous employees, and has some connection to real life events, including reference to an international bread competition. The era is strongly depicted in the script, echoing the beginning of modernisation and triumph of technology. Performances are held on Saturdays from 8 October 2011.
