Opinions about Helsinki Park are being collected online

City residents can go to http://www.ksv.hel.fi/keskustelut to express their opinions about how the design capital’s vast Helsinki Park recreation area should be developed. What new things could Helsinki Park offer for leisure time, as a travel route or a hiking destination?

Helsinki Park is a 20-km long green belt running through the heart of Helsinki. It stretches from the Haltiala forest area at the northern border of the city to the Harmaja lighthouse island situated in the archipelago in front of Helsinki. The park contains valuable cultural heritage sites, such as the original founding site of Helsinki, which is located at a hub in the Vanhakaupunki (Old City) district.

Plans call for the development of activities and events at Helsinki Park. A special focus of park development will be recreational use that is open to everyone, such as piers for fishing and socialising, canoe rentals and a café. The importance of the park’s cultural heritage and nature make it a central part of the design capital’s identity.

The online discussion forum will be open until 29 September 2011.
