Open Identity Workshop at WeeGee on Espoo Day

On Espoo Day, Saturday 27th August, there is another opportunity to plan the look of the design capital. Openness is one of the key themes during the World Design Capital year.

Thousands of people have already taken part in designing our visual look by drawing or painting both in Finland and at the Shanghai World Expo. The latest ideas came from the New Finnish Design Scenarios event in New York.

Selected results of the previous workshop held in the Kappeli restaurant on Helsinki Day will be seen on the streets of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti during this year and next. The ideas contributed at the WeeGee Exhibition Centre will also be incorporated in the design capital's visual elements.

WeeGee offers free admission, guided tours and documentary screenings. The exhibition centre also hosts the WeeGee Picnic where visitors can enjoy their own snacks or purchase a picnic bag from the cafeteria.

Espoo Day is packed with events throughout the day

Espoo Day is a tradition that celebrates the decision made by Gustav Vasa to establish an estate for the King in Espoo on 27th August 1556.

Besides the design capital workshop, the Espoo Day programme includes events all over the city on Saturday. You can venture up to the top of Fortum Tower, guided by the lift girls and boys of KONE. Up on the rooftop terrace, visitors can scan the surroundings to spot the Angry Birds or simply admire the sweeping landscape below.

A wide variety of concerts and dance performances will be held in shopping centres and parks. Visitors can appreciate works of art in the Nokia building and galleries and museums.
